Bishopthorpe Camera Club zoom meeting Invitation; Paméla Aminou, 'When less is more', Tuesday 3 November, 7.30pm

Bishopthorpe CC are delighted to announce the next speaker in our Autumn series; Paméla Aminou, on Tuesday 3 November, 7.30pm.

Paméla Aminou is a self-taught fine art photographer based in London (UK) but hailing originally from West Africa. Prepare to be astonished not only by her talent but also the fact that she uses just a single lens for all her work. Paméla specialises in long exposure, minimalist monochrome architectural photography.

Each photograph is processed using light and shadows to shape the image to her own vision and to tell a story that reflects the feelings she experienced whilst capturing the picture. Paméla will share how she finds her subjects and develops the initial photograph into a striking and emotive image.

See Paméla’s main website at http://www.pamelaaminou.com. She also maintains the Photography & Vision site where she regularly posts blogs about photographers who have influenced her. You may also be interested in her ebook ‘A Quick Guide to Minimal Architecture’.

Tickets are £5 per person, for more information please contact secretary@bishopthorpecc.co.uk

Tuesday 20th October at 7.30pm - Bishopthorpe Camera Club - Zoom lecture by Dave Sandford of Ontario, Canada

Bishopthorpe Camera Club are very pleased to host Dave Sandford from Ontario, Canada as their next speaker.

Dave Sandford is based in London Ontario, a couple of hours from Lake Erie. As a kid he loved the outdoors and had a passion for nature and sport. Aged 9 he thought he would grow up to be a hunter. His dad had different ideas and gave him a Pentax camera and said ‘shoot’ animals with this instead. Like any Canadian kid his other passion was ice hockey. Realising that he wouldn’t make it as a professional ice hockey player he went on to study photography and became a sports photographer to combine earning a living with experiencing and photographing some of the greatest sporting events including the Olympic Games. Dave has been in lockdown in Edmonton in the ‘NHL bubble’ for the past 10 weeks covering the playoffs.

Dave became interested in ocean photography in Australia after spending time with Warren Keelan and now spends a couple of months down under most years. His ‘Liquid Mountain’ series capturing the towering waves during the winter storms on Lake Erie went viral and changed his career. You don’t have to be a ‘pro’ to shoot waves here are Dave’s top 5 tips. Now nature and wildlife dominate his calendar with the ‘National Hockey League’ occupying the remaining 6 weeks. He regards the timing learned in sports photography using strobes as key to his wildlife and nature photography.

This promises to be a fascinating evening and Dave will be sharing stories covering his photographic journey. See Dave’s website for more examples of those famous waves and more of his natural history photography at https://www.davesandfordphotos.comFurther information on the BCC website.

6th October 2020 - Bishopthorpe Camera Club - Zoom Lecture
Alan Shapiro of New York

New York-based photographer Alan Shapiro was a ‘Chief Creative Officer’ at the world’s largest Advertising Agency Network where he learned the importance of telling stories in unique ways.

Alan’s photographic journey began as a way of reducing stress and evolved into a daily ‘creative exercise regimen’ after he had been given a camera by a photographer friend. Alan is a natural communicator and believes in making connections with his subjects and viewers. Each of his images has ‘character’ and there is something sumptuous about his pictures, whether the subject is flowers, food, animals or people. He will share some of his photographic ‘secrets’ whilst treating us to some of his fantastic images, so you can expect not only a visual feast but also to learn some valuable tips and tricks.

For a taste of what is in store, please see his website https://www.alanshapirophotography.com, and Flickr page https://www.flickr.com/photos/alanshapiro/albums - some fabulous images!

We would be delighted for you to join us, if you would like to attend, tickets are £5.

Please contact secretary@bishopthorpecc.co.uk for further details.

Bradford Photographic Society announce their 2020 Photographic Exhibition.

Due to the current situation, we have had to move our annual exhibition online. It is disappointing that we can’t display actual prints, but it does mean we can reach out to a wider audience.

There you will be able to see a huge variety of images from many of our members.

At our normal exhibitions, some members offer their images for sale. This is still the same. If you wish a print, then it can be printed and posted out to you.

We are also giving you the chance of choosing which you think are the best three images
and winning a copy of the best.
Voting will take place between 13th and 31st October 2020.

Please visit our exhibition at http://exhibition.bradfordphoto.org.uk.

Please share this with your friends both on Facebook and elsewhere.
That way we can get a wide audience.

Thank you

Bishopthorpe Camera Club: Bill Ward: Away from the Limelight

Zoom Meeting: Bill Ward: Away from the Limelight, Thursday 17 September, 7.30pm

Advertising executive turned actor Bill Ward will be known to TV and theatre aficionados, perhaps especially through his roles in Coronation Street, Emmerdale, The Bill and Heartbeat. Less well known is Bill’s lifelong affair with photography and its role as a counterbalance to the intensity of acting.
Bill is a Pentax Ambassador and his photography has won many awards including the Adobe Prize in the 2015 UK Landscape Photographer of the Year and the Best Seascape in the 2019 Scottish Landscape Photographer of the Year. Bill has held several solo exhibitions of his work and has a permanent collection in the Mick Oxley Gallery in Craster in his native Northumberland.
Bill’s award-winning landscapes reflect the emotions he experiences during his communes with nature. He is particularly drawn to water and his images convey a sense of peace. As you might expect from an actor Bill is an articulate communicator and will share with us what fuels his passion for making outstanding images.
Bill is kindly donating a print for us to raffle with the draw being made on the evening. Details will be made available nearer the event.
Check out Bill’s photographic work on his website, and the BCC website
